Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas diatom dan perbedaan salinitas air pada saat pasang dan surut di Tambak Garam Desa Kedung Mutih, Kecamatan Wedung, Kabupaten Demak. Teknik pengambilan diatom dalam penelitian ini menggunakan purposive . Pengambilan sampel diatom dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode sampling pasif dengan plankton net . Sampel diatom diambil dari lokasi penelitian dengan cara menyaring air menggunakan plankton net . Jenis diatom ( Bacillariophyceae ) yang ditemukan pada areal perairan tambak garam Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak selama pengamatan adalah 9 genera yaitu Thallassiosira , Bacteriastrum , Nitzschia , Chaetoceros , Rhizosolenia , Gyrosigma , Skeletonema , Asterionella dan Pleurosigma . Dari nilai indeks keanekaragaman, keseragaman dan dominansi secara umum bahwa areal perairan tambak garam Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak dapat dikatagorikan perairan yang stabil moderat. Jenis diatom yang paling sering muncul di areal perairan tambak garam Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak adalah genus Nitzschia . Salinitas pada areal perairan tambak garam Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak berkisar 30 – 45 0 / 00 . Brackish waters of the salt ponds are susceptible to changing environmental conditions. Diatoms are phytoplankton which belongs to a class Bacilariophyceae. The existence of diatoms can be used as an indicator of water quality because of the nature of his relatively sedentary, a relatively long lifespan and have a specific tolerance in the environment. The purpose of this study are to determine the structure of the diatom communities and the differences in salinity water at high tide and low tide in saltwater Kedung Mutih, Wedung, Demak. Sampling method of diatom conducted using purposive sampling in which diatom were taken from the study site by filtering the water using a plankton net in a passive way. Types of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) were found in the area of the salt pond waters Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak during observation is 9 genera that Thallassiosira sp, Bacteriastrum sp, Nitzschia sp, Chaetoceros sp, Rhizosolenia sp, Gyrosigma sp, Skeletonema sp, Asterionella sp, and Pleurosigma sp. The value of diversity index, uniformity and dominance in general that the area of the salt pond waters Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak can be categorized waters stable moderate. Types of diatoms that appears most frequently in the area of the salt pond waters Kedung Mutih Wedung Demak is the genus Nitzschia sp.
