The establishment of the DIII Archives Study Programme at Undip was motivated by the need for skilled functional archivists in the Regional Government (Pemda), both Level I and Level II in Central Java Province. This need then sparked a discussion between the Head of the Regional Archives Agency of Central Java Province and the Community Service Team of the Department of History, Faculty of Letters (now Faculty of Cultural Sciences) Diponegoro University in 1990. The Dean of the Faculty of Letters and the Rector of Diponegoro University, as well as the Governor of Central Java Province, responded to the discussion by organising archival training for employees of the Regional Government of Central Java Province in 1992. Using the historical method, this article also analyses the challenges of Prodi DIII Archives when dealing with the development of the digital world. The results show that various efforts have been made by Prodi DIII Archives to adapt to various developments, especially technological advances, and demands to contribute to the university. One of them can be seen from the implementation of a curriculum that accommodates these developments which are manifested in the courses of College Archives Management, Programming and Electronic Records Management and Archival Automation.
