Abstract

This article discusses various challenges in the railroad route transportation system. After Indonesia's independence, the operationalization of the railroad in Semarang was carried out by the Inspection Office 7, which at that time had faced a number of problems, including infrastructure damage. This problem actually made the Indonesian government implement a road rehabilitation program. This program has affected the operation of the Semarang-Juwana line, whose performance has declined. This has triggered an increase in the number of motorized vehicles passing the highway, it led the competition between railroad and highway transportation. In its development, the operation of the Semarang-Juwana line was less profitable than highway transportation. In addition, the line was considered increasingly inefficient. The operationalization of the Semarang-Juwana line has been officially closed in the 1980’s decade. The closure has an impact on the transportation of goods and passengers along the track, which have moved on road transportation by relying on buses, private cars, trucks, and colts.
