Author Guidelines

Submission Checklist

Please:

  1. Read the Aims & Scope to gain an overview and assess if your manuscript is suitable for this journal
  2. Use the Microsoft Word template to prepare your manuscript
  3. Make sure that issues about publication ethics, research ethics, copyright, authorship, figure formats, data and references format have been appropriately considered
  4. Ensure that all authors have approved the content of the submitted manuscript.

Points to Consider Before Submission of Papers

Peer Review Process

An author can submit the paper which shows originality and contributes to the body of knowledge. The paper must not be submitted elsewhere concurrently and must not be published anywhere else in any form other than the abstract. All manuscripts received must be original and will be subject to a single-blind review process. Editors conducted an initial screening review based on the First author's Submission. If the manuscript meets the basic journal standards, it will be processed into the peer review phase. At least 1 independent reviewers will evaluate the manuscript. Based on the reviewer's report and recommendation, the Editors decide whether to accept or reject the article. The editor will weigh all views and may call for a third opinion if necessary. The final decision made by the editor is unappealable.

 

Submission files

The submission file is the Docx or Doc format in Microsoft Word 2007 or later version. The manuscript is written on A4 paper size and the content is displayed in double columns. Please use the JKD/DMJ template to make it easier for you to write the manuscript, in addition to helping the editor in layout editing process.

 

Article Structure

Manuscripts must be submitted in English and structured using the IMRaD (Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion) format. You need to write the Results and Discussion chapter separately. Manuscripts can be any length, using figures and tables effectively. Please use single-space, double-column, and max 2-level heading in your manuscripts. Use Vancouver standard for Reference style. Make sure you use Citation & Bibliography feature in Microsoft Word for handling citations in manuscript.

 

Manuscript Submission Overview

Types of Publications

The length of the text in JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) is between 6 and 12 pages which provided concise and comprehensive content. Full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced. Manuscripts submitted to JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) should neither be published before nor be under consideration for publication in another journal. The main article types are as follows:

  • Research Article: Original research manuscripts. The journal considers all original research manuscripts provided that the work reports scientifically sound experiments and provides a substantial amount of new information. The quality and impact of the study will be considered during peer review.
  • Reviews: These provide concise and precise updates on the latest progress made in a given area of research.
  • Case Report: Providing neurosurgeons and researchers with an educational forum in which to disseminate their personal experiences and novel treatments to a wide readership by reviewing interesting, rare cases encountered by colleagues all over the world.

 

Preparation of a Manuscript

The author is required to comply to all undermentioned requirements in order to make the paper acceptable to the Editorial Board.

Cover Page

Title :

  • The title is written briefly, describing the contents and contributions of the manuscript. The title also does not use abbreviations or acronyms except the standard ones.
  • The title of the manuscript is written using ‘Capitalize Each Word’, except conjunctions using lowercase.
  • The place and time of research do not need to be included in the title unless the research is specific to a particular time and place.

Detail information of the author(s) :

  • All authors have been written in the manuscript and also in the OJS system. One of the authors who corresponded through the OJS system was determined as the correspondence author.
  • All authors must include e-mails in the OJS system.
  • Correspoding author must include e-mail in the manuscript and in the OJS system.
  • Affiliation information is written in 1 line in the text, at least showing the name of the institution and country.
  • Make sure that the completness of authorship in metadata in the OJS system

Structure of the Paper

Abstract

The abstract may not exceed 250 words. Abstracts are arranged in a structured manner. Consisting of Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

Background: What is the latest knowledge on the issue? Some key phrases to use here are: recent studies/although some clinical research has established x, the role of y is not well known.

Objective: What did you want to find out? Some key phrases to use here are: This study examines/To ascertain/To identify/To understand.

Methods: How did you go about finding it? What type of methodology did you use? A quantitative study randomized controlled study qualitative survey literature review/a double-blind trial.

Results: What did you find? What data or outcomes did you observe? You can use phrases such as X was observed because of Y. Do not be vague! State exactly what you found.

Conclusion: What did your results tell you? Did you find out what you wanted? Why or why not? What should be studied next?

Keywords

  • The number of keywords between 4 and 6.
  • Keywords are arranged in alphabetical order.
  • A combination of all keywords represents the content, contribution, or purpose of the text.

The length of the text is between 6 and 12 pages which includes all text, figures/tables/ and references.

Introduction

This section must contain:

  • Has explained the context/object of research and must focus in accordance with the scope of the title.
  • Has explained why this research is important.
  • It has included the existing research gap, explaining the unique differences from this study compared to similar previous studies.
  • Has written research objectives/contributions explicitly.
  • The length of this section is between 300 – 700 words.

Methodology

  • Has cited a source who helped the authors in the selection of methods.
  • Has explained how data is obtained.
  • The procedure has been written chronologically and clearly.
  • The authors have written how the results will be measured, tested, and evaluated.

Results

  • The results of the study are written in logical sequences, according to the research flow.
  • The results of the study are presented in the form of narrative/textual, tables or images in the form of graphs or diagrams. Avoid displaying raw data.

Discussion

  • An explanation of the results and in-depth analysis has been written.
  • Comparison of results with other studies has been written.
  • Limitation of study or threat to validity has been written.

Conclusion

It has been explicitly written down the contribution of the manuscript and the answers to the research questions.

Acknowledgments

If it is a funded research, information on funders agency must be provided along with the contract number (if any).

Conflict of Interest

Stated that there is no conflict of interest related to the materials, methods, and findings in this study.

Funding

All financial resources must be declared in the manuscript.

Authors’ Contributions

The role of the author(s) in the research should also be written (e.g.: participate in the design of the study, participate in the analysis and interpretation of the data).

References

Authors are recommended to use reference management software, in writing the citations and references such as: Mendeley®, Zotero®, EndNote®, and Reference Manager®.

The accuracy of reference data is the responsibility of the author. Cite references in numeric order according to the first mention in the text and write them according to the Vancouver rules. The number of references should not exceed 30 and minimum 20. Eighty (80) percent of the references should come from journals from the past 10 years. Only 20 percent of the references come from textbooks or journals from the past more than 10 years or website.

Name of the author is written using the last name. First and middle name abbreviated. Include the name of the authors with a maximum of 6 authors. If there are more than six authors, write the names of the first six authors and then add “et al.”. The title of article is typed using sentence case. Name of journal abbreviated according to index mediscus. References from articles that have been received and awaiting publication in a particular magazine should be written as “in press”

Other Formatting Requirements

Language

  • There are no spelling mistakes, typos, and grammatical errors. You can use tools such as Grammarly or recommendations provided by MS Word for language checking.
  • Use direct and short sentences. Long sentences do not make the writing more professional; they only confuse readers.

Tables and Figures

  • Already using the appropriate format in displaying images and tables.
  • The image or graph must be self-explanatory, so it does not depend on the text.
  • Minimum image resolution is not specified, but must be clearly visible when published online (colored) or printed (black and white).
  • Images do not have copyright issues.
  • All images and tables have been referenced in the manuscript.

Allegations of Misconduct

JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) takes seriously allegations of misconduct pre-publication and post-publication. We will assess any information to identify any type of misconduct. If the allegation is true, we reserve the right to take action including, but not limited to: publishing corrections; retract the article; resolve this issue with the head of the department or dean of the relevant author institution and/or academic body or community, or take appropriate legal action.

Authorship and Contributorship

JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) obligates the authors to explain the originality of their works, avoidance of duplicate and/or salami publications, and the contribution of each author listed in the manuscript through a Cover Letter. The template of the Cover Letter can be downloaded here. 

It should be noted that JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) does not accept any articles that have been submitted to other types of publication (journals, proceeding, book chapter, etc.)

The authors must properly cite all works mentioned in the articles (articles or data set), both in the body text and in the reference list. Self-citation is allowed as long as it is relevant to the topic discussed. 

Conflict of interest/competing interests

Since conflicts of interest may influence the judgment of authors, reviewers, and editors, authors should avoid conflicts of interest or the appearance of conflicts of interest throughout the research process. All such interests (or their absence), such as roles in a project or funding source, should be stated explicitly by authors upon submission of the manuscript. If the manuscript is published, such a statement will be published within the article. If there is doubt about whether a circumstance represents a conflict, it should be disclosed, so that Editors may assess its significance. Data and Reproducibility

Editorial Board or Peer-Reviewers have the responsibility to identify the use of fabricated data. If suspicion arose, the Editorial Board will ask opinions from more than one additional peer-reviewers and have a dialogue with authors. JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) also has the right to check data sets from the Author, if there is concern about data fabrication.

Ethical oversight

JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) also has concerns about ethical problems such as consent from respondents/informants, handling confidential data, and ethical business/marketing practices.

Intellectual property

As mentioned in the ‘Copyright Notice’, by publishing in JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL), authors grant any third party the right to use their article to the extent provided by the  Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license.

Copyright on articles is retained by the respective author(s), without restrictions. A non-exclusive license is granted to JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) to publish the article and identify itself as its original publisher, along with the commercial right to include the article in a hardcopy issue for sale to libraries and individuals.

Every article submitted in JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) will be checked with plagiarism checking software. Article with a similarity index of more than 25% will be rejected upon submission. For duplicate publications and salami publications, we encourage the readers and peer-reviewers to inform us on these types of misconduct. Duplicate publication (sometimes referred to as redundant or dual publication) implies reporting identical or very similar data in multiple papers. Salami publication (also known as salami slicing and salami publishing) refers to the inappropriate fragmentation of data into the smallest publishable units.

Post-publication discussions and corrections

JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) allows changes in article post-publication. Correction, revision, or retracting articles post-publication can be done through discussion between the authors and the Editorial Board.

In the copy-editing and proofreading process, the editor will make changes to the text without changing the meaning if there is a grammatical error, spelling, or ineffectiveness of the sentence. Prior to the publication of the article, the results of the copy-editing and proofreading will be provided to the author for approval

 

Assignment of DOI

JURNAL KEDOKTERAN DIPONEGORO (DIPONEGORO MEDICAL JOURNAL) would endeavour to assign a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to each article after it is approved by CrossRef. This number stays forever. This number is required when a paper is in publication process after acceptance and is required to be cited by other authors.

 

Proof-Reading

In order to publish the article without any errors and mistakes, proofreading is a must-do act. The author is required to check grammatical errors, the correctness of the text, tables, figures, and the presentation of the materials and text. There must not be new paragraphs or new materials or text in the article once it is accepted by the editor.

 

Open Access Copyright

All accepted papers will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC-BY-NC-SA). Authors retain the copyright and grant the journal right of first publication. This means the journal lets others share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material).

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  7. The similarity index from the Turnitin is less than 25%
  8. The completness of authorship including affiliation is complete
