Aktivitas manusia pada pantai tersebut diduga telah mempengaruhi perbedaan kelimpahan bintang mengular. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kelimpahan bintang mengular (Ophiuroidea) pada daerah Teluk dan Lepas Pantai pada perairan Pantai Krakal, Kabupaten Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2014. Metode pengambilan data kelimpahan bintang mengular (Ophiuroide) dan data persentase penutupan substrat menggunakan metode line transek sepanjang 50 meter dan metode kuadran transek dengan luas 1 x 1 meter. Hasil yang didapatkan dari penelitian ini pada daerah Teluk didapatkan kelimpahan individu bintang mengular sebanyak 979 individu / 150 meter 2 , sedangkan kelimpahan individu bintang mengular pada daerah Lepas Pantai sebanyak 464 individu / 150 meter 2 . Hasil yang didapatkan dari persentase penutupan substrat di daerah Teluk sebesar 89,12%. Sedangkan nilai persentase penutupan substrat di daerah Lepas Pantai sebesar 84,78%. Pada kedua stasiun didapatkan 3 jenis bintang mengular yaitu Ophiocoma erinaceus , Ophiocoma riseii , dan Ophiocoma scolopendrina . Kelimpahan jenis bintang mengular yang paling banyak ditemukan di daerah Teluk dan daerah Lepas Pantai adalah jenis Ophiocoma scolopendrina .
