Pantai Pagak memiliki gelombang yang kuat karena berhadapan langsung dengan Samudera Hindia. Sedimen di pantai Pagak memiliki ukuran diameter butiran yang bervariasi dan merupakan habitat bagi Undur-undur laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kelimpahan Undur-undur laut (Hippidae) dan mengetahui hubungan ukuran diameter butiran sedimen dengan kelimpahan Undur-undur laut di pantai Pagak, Kabupaten Purworejo, Jawa Tengah. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan April 2014. Metode pengambilan data kelimpahan Undur-undur laut menggunakan line transek sepanjang 10 meter ke arah laut, dimana tiap meternya dilakukan pengambilan sampel Undur-undur laut dan sedimen dengan kuadran transek berukuran 1x1 meter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada dua jenis Undur-undur laut di pantai Pagak, yaitu Emerita emeritus dan Hippa ovalis , dengan kelimpahan 684 individu/50m 2 . Kelimpahan Undur-undur laut berhubungan erat dengan ukuran diameter butiran sedimen, dimana Undur-undur laut lebih melimpah pada ukuran diameter butiran sedimen 0,25 – 1 mm. Mole Crab (Hippidae) is a type of Crustacean that has economic value and ecological role in marine environment. Mole crab widely spread around the world, however the presence of Mole crab in Indonesia is still not widely known. Pagak beach is a sandy beach on the South coast of Java island which be a tourist attraction and shrimp cultivation area. The Pagak beach has a strong waves due to direct connection to the Indian Ocean. Sediment in the Pagak beach have a varied grain size diameter, and be a mole crab habitat. This research aims to determine abundance of Mole crab and relationship of sediment grain size diameter to the abundance of Mole crab in the Pagak beach, Purworejo, Central Java. This research was conducted on April 2014. The data collection method of Mole crab abundance using line transect along 10 meters toward the sea, and samples of Mole crab and sediment were taken in every meter using 1x1 quadrant transect. The research show that there are two kinds of Mole crab, i.e. Emerita emeritus and Hippa ovalis with an abundance of 684 individual/50m 2 .
