Aspek biologi merupakan salah satu informasi yang dapat digunakan sebagai dasar dalam pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan sumberdaya ikan Layur. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aspek biologis ikan Layur yang mencakup hubungan panjang-berat, faktor kondisi, tingkat kematangan gonad, fekunditas, ukuran pertama kali tertangkap, serta ukuran pertama kali matang gonad berdasarkan hasil tangkapan di PPP Morodemak. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei, dengan teknik pengambilan sampel secara sistematik random sampling. Jenis data yang digunakan yaitu data primer yang didapatkan dari hasil tangkapan dengan cara mengambil 10% dari total hasil tangkapan ikan yang didaratkan. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan sebanyak 4 kali pada bulan Maret – April 2014. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Pertumbuhan ikan Layur bersifat alometrik negatif, dengan nilai b yaitu sebesar 2,68. Nilai faktor kondisi ikan Layur adalah 1,106 yang berarti ikan Layur memiliki tubuh kurang pipih. Nilai fekunditas terbesar yang diperoleh yaitu 230.692 butir dan fekunditas terkecil sebanyak 147.844 butir. Tingkat kematangan gonad didominasi TKG I, karena ikan Layur belum memasuki musim pemijahan, dan nilai indeks kematangan gonad bervariasi yaitu antara 0,021% - 5,015%. Ukuran pertama kali matang gonad (L 50% ) ikan Layur adalah 743 mm. Ukuran pertama kali tertangkapnya ikan Layur adalah 563 mm, hal ini menunjukan bahwa ikan sudah layak tangkap berdasarkan nilai L 50% > ½ L∞. Ribbon Fish (Trichiurus lepturus) is one of the demersal are found on the coasts of Java and estuaries in Sumatra. Fishery production is still dominated by fishing from the sea. By fishing that will never stop, therefore it needs a good management of these resources. The purpose of this research was to determine the biological aspects of Ribbon Fish which includes length-weight relationship, condition factor, Gonad Maturity Level, fecundity, size of the first captured fish, as well as the size of the first ripe gonads based on catching in PPP Morodemak . The method that used was a survey method, the technique of sampling was systematic random sampling. The type of data used was primary data obtained from the catching by taking10% of the total catching fish landed. Sampling was carried out 4 times in March-April 2014. The results show that Ribbon fish growth was allometric negative, the value of b was 2.68. Ribbon fish condition factor value was 1.106 which means less Ribbon fish ha d flattened bodies. The biggest fecundities value was 230.692 and the smallest grains value was 147 . 844. The gonads maturity level was dominated by TKG I, as yet entered Ribbon fish spawning season, and gonad maturity index which varie d between 0.021% - 5.015%. The size of the first ripe gonads ( L 50% ) was 743 mm.
