The background of Kho Ping Hoo is chronologically using the historical method. The story of silat was born from the Chinese peranakan community in Indonesia. The Peranakan Chinese uses Chinese Malay to communicate, as well as the silat stories produced by the Chinese Peranakans. It is certainly interesting considering that at the beginning of the 20th century, literary works did not use the standard Indonesian language belonging to Balai Pustaka were considered as literary works of low quality. However, as a genre of Peranakan literature that uses the Chinese Malay language, Kho Ping Hoo's silat stories are actually in demand by people from all walks of life. While many silat writers in Indonesia adapt stories from Chinese books or novels, Kho Ping Hoo is here to present his original works. This of course makes the special study of Kho Ping Hoo even more interesting. The study of Kho Ping Hoo's life journey is presented in the form of a biography.
