Abstract

Universal Mobile Telecommunication System is a 3rd Generation cellular technology which is a revolution of GSM.  Radio Link Control Sub-layer in data link layer can operates in three mode: Transparent Mode, Unacknowledged Mode, and Acknowledged Mode. In this study designed a simulation of AM and UM performance in RLC sub-layer, carried out using OPNET Modeler 14.5. The analyzed traffic are email, web browsing, video conferencing, and voice application. Conducted three simulated scenarios with a variety of fixed and moving service users and service user number variation. From results, the best throughput for email, video conferencing, and voice applications are obtained in UM scenario that are 7913 bps, 64807 bps, and 8801 bps . For web application, the best throughput obtained by AM scenario that are 5475 bps. Best response time for email is 2.47 second  for DL and 2.6 second for UL from AM scenario. Best response time from web is 0.42 second for Object and 0.99 second for Page Response Time, both acquired in AM scenario. End-to-end delay obtained for video conferencing is  constant 0.26 second, and for voice is 0.32 second, both obtained in UM scenario. Minimum email and web packet loss obtained by AM scenario, the value is 0.07% and 7%. Minimum packet loss for video conferencing and voice aplication obtained by UM scenario, the value is 10.53% and 5.05%.
