Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Pelestarian Cagar Budaya Kawasan Masjid Agung Demak

Abstract

The cultural heritage of the Great Mosque of Demak has historical values that need to be preserved and supported by the government and the people who live around it. However, there is currently no community involvement supporting community-based conservation in the Great Mosque of Demak area, which creates a gap in the community's roles with the actual conditions. This study aims to determine the factors causing the lack of community participation in supporting the preservation of cultural heritage based on the internal and external conditions of the community. This study shows that the characteristics of the residents of Kampung Kauman affect the community's non-participation in supporting the preservation of cultural heritage. The reasons behind these factors are the level of education, age, and length of stay. In addition, other influential internal factors include the lack of public awareness to participate, resulting in a lack of sense of belonging due to a lack of communication and cultural shifts. Meanwhile, external factors from outside that affect the community's participation are due to leadership, management, and new rules. As a recommendation, public awareness can be increased supported by one-way communication between the community and the people of Kampung Kauman.
