Sungai yang tercemar dapat menimbulkan gangguan akibat perubahan interaksi antara komponen biotik dan abiotik di dalam ekosistem perairan sungai. Salah satu komponen biotik yang berperan penting dalam ekosistem air adalah fitoplankton yang dapat dijadikan indikator biologi menentukan kesuburan perairan (fase trofik) dan pencemaran di dalam perairan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas fitoplankton; kesuburan perairan dan perhitungan nilai Saprobitas Perairan; dan keterkaitan unsur hara (N, P) dan klorofil dengan kelimpahan fitoplankton. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah sampel air Sungai Tulung Demak dengan pengukuran parameter fisika, kimia dan biologi. Kelimpahan rata-rata fitoplankton pada pagi dan siang hari berkisar antara 6.161 - 15.289 dan 4.367 - 9.955 ind/L dengan 43 genera. Kandungan hara pada nitrat berkisar 0,41 - 1,02 mg/L dan fosfat sebesar 0,05 - 0,19 mg/L. Nilai ini cukup optimum bagi kehidupan fitoplankton Nilai saprobik indeks (SI) berkisar antara 0,3 - 1 dan tropik saprobik indeks (TSI) berkisar antara -1,9 - 0,5. Kualitas perairan sungai Tulung termasuk dalam tingkat β - Mesosaprobik/ pencemaran ringan. River pollution can inflict disorder due to changes in the interaction between components abioti c and biotic in the river ecosystem.One of the biotic components that are important in aquatic ecosystem is phytoplankton that can be used as biological indicators to determine productivity and pollution in the waters . The purpose of the research w ere to determine the structure of the phytoplankton community; Saprobi c value waters and linkage of nutrients ( N and P ). The method has been used in this research was descriptive and sample collection conducted twice on three stations which consists of three points and two times with a span of one week. Based on the average value of phytoplankton in the morning and during the day ranged from 6.161-15.289 and 4.367-9.955 ind / L with 43 genera. Nutrient content in nitrate ranged from 0,41 to 1,02 mg / L and phosphate of 0,05 to 0,1 9 mg / L . This value is quite optimum for the life of phytoplankton. The v alue saprobic index ( SI ) ranging from 0,3 to 1 and tropic saprobic index ( TSI ) ranged from -1,9 – 0,5.
