Aspek reproduksi terdiri dari tingkat kematangan gonad, indeks kematangan gonad, ukuran pertama kali matang gonad dan nisbah kelamin. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei, dengan cara pengambilan sampel secara acak sederhana ( simple random sampling ) sebanyak satu keranjang pada setiap sepuluh keranjang hasil tangkapan ikan. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2014 – Februari 2015 di PPP Sadeng. Sampel yang diperoleh selama penelitian sebanyak 1.324 ekor ikan Layang dengan kisaran panjang 145-380 mm dan kisaran berat 39-669 gram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola pertumbuhan ikan Layang (D. macrosoma ) adalah alometrik negatif yaitu pertambahan panjang yang lebih cepat dari pertambahan berat tubuhnya. Faktor kondisi yang diperoleh sebesar 1,05 berarti bahwa kondisi ikan kurang pipih. Ukuran pertama kali tertangkap (L 50% ) yaitu 255 mm. Tingkat kematangan gonad didominasi TKG III dan TKG IV dan indeks kematangan gonad berkisar antara 0,11-5,15%. Ukuran pertama kali matang gonad (Lm 50% ) ikan Layang jantan dan betina adalah 247 mm dan 250 mm, hal ini menunjukkan ikan yang tertangkap sudah mengalami matang gonad dilihat dari Lm 50% < L 50% . Rasio kelamin antara ikan Layang jantan dan betina adalah 1,4 : 1. The Shortfin scad (Decapterus macrosoma) is one of the few types of the fish which is caught at the Sadeng fishing base. The Shortfin Scad, Decapterus macrosoma is a pelagic fish that is caught by purse seine fishing gear (mini purse seine). The sustainability of Shortfin Scad’s resources need to be maintained, because of its significant role for fisheries. This study aims to find out informations of the Shortfin Scad’s resources from the aspects of biology. The biological aspects include the aspect of growth that consists of length and weight measurement, condition factor, and the length of first capture. Reproductive aspect consists the maturity levels of gonad, gonad maturation index, the length of first maturity and sex ratio. The method used was survey method. The sample method was using simple random sampling by collecting one basket at every ten baskets of the fish catches. Sampling was conducted in December 2014 until February 2015 at Sadeng fishing base . The samples of the Scortfin Scad used for research was 1.324 fishes, the length ranged between 145-380 mm and the weight ranged between 39-669 grams. The results showed that the growth patterns of D. macrosoma was negative allometric, which means that the growth of length is faster than the body weight gain. The c ondition factor of D. macrosoma was 1.05, it means that the fish has less flattened body. The length of first capture (L 50% ) was 255 mm. Gonad maturity level was dominated with TKG III and TKG IV and gonad maturation index was ranged between 0.11-5. 1 5% . The size of first maturity (Lm 50% ) both for males and females was 247 mm and 250 mm, it indicated that D. macrosoma had been caught in the mature moment, which is seen from Lm 50% < L 50% .
