Abstract

[Social Capital and Information Literacy as Symbiotic Interactions in Academic Libraries: A Systematic Literature Review] This systematic literature review aims to analyze the symbiotic interaction between social capital and information literacy in the context of college libraries. Using a systematic literature review methodology, this study identifies, evaluates, and synthesizes relevant findings from SINTA-indexed national journals and Scopus-indexed international journals in the last ten years (2014-2024). The results of the analysis show that information literacy is not only a product of social interaction but also an important trigger for the formation and strengthening of social capital in the academic environment. College libraries play a central role as catalysts in the formation of academic communities, providing physical and digital spaces that facilitate collaboration and networking. Social capital, in turn, significantly facilitates students' and researchers' access to tertiary information sources and expert knowledge, especially through bridging and linking. Furthermore, information literacy has been shown to increase students' academic and social participation, positively correlated with academic achievement. The study also highlights the existence of information literacy inequality, especially in certain student groups, which has the potential to lead to social fragmentation and academic exclusion. A deep understanding of these interactions is crucial for librarians and policymakers to design more effective interventions to create inclusive and productive learning ecosystems.
