ANALISA PENGARUH GEOMETRI TAPERED IN-OUT VORTEX FINDER PADA CYCLONE SEPARATOR PADA COLLECTION EFFICIENCY MENGGUNAKAN METODE CFD-DEM

Abstract

Cyclone separator merupakan instrumen pemisah gas-padat yang banyak diterapkan pada industri, namun kerap dibatasi oleh tingginya penurunan tekanan (pressure drop) dan lolosnya partikel halus akibat resirkulasi turbulensi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh dimensi modifikasi geometri tapered pada vortex finder terhadap performa dan medan aliran cyclone separator tipe Stairmand menggunakan metode gabungan Computational Fluid Dynamics – Discrete Element Method (CFD-DEM). Fasa fluida dimodelkan dengan Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) untuk merepresentasikan aliran berpusar secara anisotropik, sedangkan lintasan partikel berukuran 1–10 µm dilacak menggunakan DEM. Lima konfigurasi dievaluasi, yaitu desain baseline konvensional (V0) dan empat variasi panjang profil tapered (V1–V4). Hasil simulasi yang ditinjau melalui data kecepatan aksial, kecepatan tangensial, tekanan, serta lintasan partikel menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi tapered menstabilkan aliran aksial pada pusaran dalam, meredam puncak kecepatan tangensial yang berlebihan, dan menurunkan penumpukan tekanan statis sehingga menekan pressure drop sistem. Akan tetapi, pemanjangan profil yang berlebihan melemahkan medan gaya sentrifugal sehingga menurunkan efisiensi pengumpulan. Secara umum, variasi dengan panjang tapered moderat memberikan keseimbangan terbaik antara penghematan energi dan performa pemisahan partikel.
