Abstract
Dangdut music is one of the most popular music genres in Indonesia and has the power to reflect the social, political, and cultural dynamics of society. This study aims to analyze the role of dangdut music, especially through the lyrics of Rhoma Irama's songs, as a medium for criticizing power. Using a case study approach to Rhoma Irama's political song lyrics, this study examines how messages of social and political criticism are conveyed through dangdut music, as well as their influence on society's understanding and attitudes towards issues of power. The results of the study show that Rhoma Irama uses dangdut music as a tool to convey criticism of injustice, corruption, social inequality, and political conditions in Indonesia, especially during the New Order era. Lyrics of songs such as "Rupiah", "Hak Asasi", "135 Juta", and "Indonesia" are real examples of how dangdut music can be a reflection of social reality and a tool of struggle for society. This study concludes that dangdut music not only functions as entertainment, but also as an effective medium for socio-political expression and advocacy.
