Abstract

ABSTRACT

Stunting is still a public health problem that attracts global attention. Stunting is a problem of chronic malnutrition caused by a state of malnutrition related to a lack of nutritional intake in the past. Based on e-PPGBM data, the prevalence of stunting in Batu City as of October 2024 reached 10.29% (Ministry of Health, 2024). Through measurements of stunted toddlers based on D/S data, there are 3 villages with the highest number of stunted children, namely Giripurno 101 toddlers (14.19%), Temas 78 toddlers (10.40%), and Sisir 77 toddlers (9.81%). This study aims to analyze the relationship between a history of Low Birth Weight (LBW) and the incidence of stunting among toddlers in Giripurno Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design involved 712 toddlers as samples. Data was taken from the e-PPGBM application, which records the nutritional status of toddlers aged 0–59 months. The results of the analysis showed that 46 toddlers (6.5%) had a history of LBW, and 13 of them (28.3%) experienced stunting. In contrast, toddlers with normal birth weight showed a stunting prevalence of 13.2%. Statistical analysis using the chi-square test produced a p-value of 0.005 and an odds ratio of 2.587 (95% CI: 1.311–5.107), which shows that toddlers with a history of LBW have a 2.587 times greater risk of experiencing stunting than toddlers with normal birth weight. This research concludes that there is a significant relationship between a history of LBW and the incidence of stunting in toddlers.
