Pemaknaan Khalayak Terhadap Resistensi atas Objektifikasi Seksual Perempuan dalam Serial Taxi Driver (2021) Kasus Udata

Abstract

Taxi Driver (2021) portrays various forms of resistance to the sexual objectification of women carried out by the victims, the Taxi Driver team, and the prosecutor. This study aims to describe audience interpretations of resistance to sexual objectification perpetrated by the company in the Udata case depicted in Taxi Driver (2021). This study employs John Fiske’s semiotic analysis and Stuart Hall’s reception analysis to examine 14 selected scenes containing representations of resistance to the sexual objectification of women. Data on audience interpretations were obtained through in-depth interviews with six informants from different backgrounds. The findings show that the informants actively constructed interpretations that tended to fall within dominant and negotiated positions. The findings show that informants tended to interpret the resistance of the victims and the Taxi Driver team from a dominant position, while Prosecutor Hana’s resistance was interpreted from a negotiated position due to her perceived slow response and limited ability to assess the situation. The informants interpreted the resolution of the Udata case as the result of collective resistance, although three informants viewed Kim Do Gi as having a more dominant role that involved greater risks. The involvement of female characters, further emphasizes that women also play an important role in the efforts to resolve the case.
