Analisis Pro Kontra dalam Framing Tempo.co terhadap Narasi Politik “Antek Asing” oleh Prabowo Subianto

Abstract

Mass media play a strategic role in shaping public understanding of political reality through framing processes. In Indonesia’s increasingly polarized political landscape, the use of ideological narratives by political actors has become a significant concern for the media. One such narrative is the term “foreign stooges” (antek asing) used by Prabowo Subianto in several political speeches in 2025. This narrative sparked public debate and diverse responses from political elites, civil society, and the media. This study aims to analyze how Tempo.co framed the “antek asing” narrative and how such framing reflects the media’s ideological position. This study employs a critical paradigm with a qualitative descriptive approach. Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis model is applied to five Tempo.co news articles published in 2025. The analysis focuses on four framing elements: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. In addition to textual analysis, visual elements are examined to assess framing consistency. The findings reveal that Tempo.co frames the “antek asing” narrative as a political rhetorical strategy that risks silencing criticism and narrowing democratic space, rather than as a genuine threat to national sovereignty. Tempo.co consistently positions political actors as the source of the problem and emphasizes public rationality, data verification, and freedom of expression. This framing reflects Tempo.co’s ideological stance as a critical media outlet performing its watchdog role toward power.
