Abstract
Violence and sexual harassment in the workplace remain serious issues experienced by many women, largely rooted in unequal power relations and entrenched sexist cultures that position women as a subordinate group. The film She Said (2022) portrays women’s resistance to such normalized systemic sexism. This study analyzes the representation of women’s resistance in the film using ambivalent sexism theory (Glick & Fiske), resistance theory (James C. Scott), and John Fiske’s semiotic analysis across the levels of reality, representation, and ideology. The findings show that She Said depicts how systemic sexism operates in everyday life, frames women as active subjects of resistance through empathetic cinematic techniques, and critiques patriarchal-capitalist ideology by presenting feminism and gender-perspective journalism as counter-ideologies. Overall, the film represents collective women’s resistance as a means to expose and challenge deeply rooted sexist practices, aiming to liberate women, especially victims of sexual harassment and violence, from isolation and social stigma.
