PEMAKNAAN MUSISI INDEPENDEN TERHADAP PEMBERITAAN DIRECT LICENSE DI MEDIA ONLINE

Abstract

The discourse on direct license in royalty governance was reported by Kompas.com as a solution to the problems within Indonesia’s royalty system. This study aims to examine how independent musicians interpret such coverage using reception analysis and the concept of interpretive communities, based on in-depth interviews with four independent musicians. The findings reveal three decoding positions: full acceptance of the dominant meaning, negotiated acceptance, and rejection of the dominant meaning. Overall, direct license viewed as an appealing concept, yet its implementation is perceived as potentially adding complexity. The study concludes that independent musicians emphasize the need for transparency, perceive royalty issues as extending beyond the legality of LMKN, and prefer a simpler system, with their interpretations shaped by experience and their independent identity.
