ANALISIS FRAMING PEMBERITAAN KEKERASAN SEKSUAL TERHADAP PEREMPUAN DI LINGKUNGAN LEMBAGA PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM PADA REPUBLIKA ONLINE

Abstract

Cases of sexual violence against women in Indonesia remain high every year, including in Islamic educational institutions. The mass media plays an important role in shaping public opinion through the way they frame issues. However, there are still reports of sexual violence against women that do not comply with the Press Law, the Journalistic Code of Ethics, and are not biased towards the victims. This study aims to analyze how the framing of news coverage on sexual violence against women in Islamic educational institutions is conducted by Republika Online. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using Robert N. Entman's framing analysis. The data sources consist of four hard news articles from the news section of Republika Online during the period January December 2024. The results of the study indicate that Republika Online tends to frame the issue of sexual violence in a sensational manner by emphasizing sadistic language, exposing the victim's identity, and failing to present the victim's perspective. Such framing treats sexual violence as a news commodity, disregards the moral and social functions of the media, and violates the Journalistic Code of Ethics. In conclusion, news coverage on Republika Online is still not gender sensitive. This study suggests that media should apply the principles of gender sensitive journalism, adhere to ethical codes, and hopes that future research will use a critical discourse theory approach to uncover gender bias more deeply.
