NARASI PERLAWANAN DAN PEMBUNGKAMAN STUDI REPRESENTASI KEKERASAN TERHADAP PEREMPUAN DALAM FILM PENYALIN CAHAYA (2021)

Abstract

Film as a mass communication media not only reflects social reality, but also plays a role in shaping public understanding of sensitive issues such as violence against women. This study aims to determine how the narrative of resistance and silencing of the study of representation of violence against women in the depiction of reality presented in the film Penyalin Cahaya (2021), both verbal and non-verbal violence through female characters in the film. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with a critical approach. This study uses textual analysis with John Fiske's semiotic analysis at three levels: level reality, level representation, and level ideology. The grand theory used is Muted Group Theory. The results of the study 1 show that the film Penyalin Cahaya (2021) represents violence against women as a form of domination of power by the patriarchal structure. The character Sur is a symbol of women's resistance to injustice, but her struggle shows that silencing occurs systematically through institutions, the perpetrator's family, and a culture that blames the victim (victim blaming). This film not only depicts violence, but also shows that women's struggle to speak up is still hampered by the dominance of patriarchal ideology that silences.
