Students who are in a new environment need to adapt to be able to adjust themselves to social dimensions such as culture, lifestyle, weather, food, and the habits of the new environment. However, at the beginning of the adaptation process, someone who has just entered a certain culture will experience culture shock. This study aims to explore the phenomenon of cultural adaptation and culture shock of several Indonesian students who are studying or have studied in Russia. Using U Curve Theory and Uncertainty Reduction Theory with qualitative methods in the form of indepth interviews. This study reveals in terms of aspects of environmental adaptation Indonesian students feel that there are factors from the environment, such as parties who help, while the obstacles they experience are in terms of language, for the length of adaptation each individual has different experiences ranging from 3-6 months and even up to 2-3 years takes time to be able to adapt, in terms of adaptation to the learning environment Indonesian students feel that the obstacles they experience are in terms of the Russian language, However, there are parties who help them also in the process of adapting, one of which is Russian friends, in terms of adaptation of Interpersonal Communication Indonesian students feel that there are several things that must be considered in building communication, one of which is Russian culture, socializing styles, and mastery of the Russian language, and finally in terms of mental health adaptation Indonesian students as a whole do not experience severe psychological obstacles but there is one who experiences psychological obstacles that are classified as severe such as depression, and stress. So the overall process of cultural adaptation of Indonesian students in Russia shows that they can adapt well where each individual has their own characteristics.
