Abstract

First-year students are one of the groups at risk of experiencing mental health disorders, especially in controlling their emotional balance. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between loneliness and the mental health of STIKES students in Surabaya. The type of research design used was a correlation study with a cross-sectional approach. The number of samples in this study was 68 students with inclusion criteria. Instrument used UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) Loneliness Scale and Self-Rating Questionnaire (SRQ) 20 questionnaire. The results of the survey found that more than 50% (54%) of students had moderate levels of loneliness, more than 50% (60%) of students were at risk of having mental disorders, and there was a relationship between loneliness and mental health in STIKES students. Therefore there is a need for assistance for students in managing the psychological difficulties they experience so that mental health problems do not occur.
