Abstract

The chemical stability of finishing solutions is a crucial factor in determining the final quality of furniture surface coatings. This study aims to design and implement a real-time Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system for the Potential of Hydrogen (pH) of furniture finishing solutions. The focus of this study is to compare two types of finishing solutions: water-based, top coat gloss, and water (WB+TC) and water-based and water (WB) over a seven-day observation period. The data obtained show that the WB+TC solution exhibits superior pH stability, starting at a value of 8.56 and ending at 8.09 on the seventh day. In contrast, the standard WB solution exhibited a more aggressive decline, dropping from an initial value of 8.13 to 7.21. The sharp decline in the WB solution without a top coat indicates greater susceptibility to oxidation reactions and faster CO₂ absorption from the environment. The research results demonstrate that the addition of a gloss top coat acts as a buffering agent that slows down the degradation of the base. The implementation of the IoT system has proven effective in continuously providing high-precision data, enabling early detection of chemical changes in the solution before they reach a neutral point that could compromise the adhesive strength and aesthetic quality of the finish. This system offers a solution for the furniture industry to maintain product quality standards through automated and accurate monitoring of chemical parameters.
