PENGARUH KONSENTRASI INFLUEN DAN KECEPATAN UPFLOW TERHADAP PENYISIHAN BOD DAN COD PADA PENGOLAHAN AIR LIMBAH DOMESTIK ARTIFICIAL (GREY WATER) MENGGUNAKAN REAKTOR UASB

Abstract


In this experiment, we knew the optimum condition of reactor UASB to process artificial waste water (grey water from domestic waste water) with different influent concentration and upflow velocity. Grey water is used because in fact, people just let it be as like it is, so it can contaminate the water bodies. UASB reactor that used in this experiment is laboratory scale reactor. Biochemichal Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) are dependent variable in this experiment. Variation of influent concentration  that used  are (COD) : low (+155 mg/l), low-medium (+560 mg/l), medium (+840 mg/l), medium-high (+1120 mg/l), high concentration (+1400 mg/l) and BOD : low (+107 mg/l), low-medium (+350 mg/l), medium (+525 mg/l), medium-high (+700 mg/l), high concentration (+875 mg/l.  Variation of upflow velocity that used are 0,15 m/hour, 0,1 m/hour, 0,075 m/hour, 0,06 m/hour and 0,05 m/hour. The optimum conditions of the UASB reactor for BOD and COD removal  in the variation of upflow velocity were achieved at low upflow velocity of 0.05 m/hour (1,38 x 10-5 m/s). In spite of it, with variation of influent concentration, the optimum conditions of the UASB reactor for  BOD and COD removal were achieved at  medium concentrations at + 525 mg / l for BOD and + 840 mg / l for COD. The efficiency removal of this experiment were maximum, BOD on 75% and COD on 77%. The reactor with low upflow velocity can give extra time to microorganisms to elaborate waste water substrat so the efficiency removal get increased.
