Abstract
Rural-urban transformation is a process of changing the characteristics of the area from being rural to urban. Rural-urban transformation can be caused by three aspects, namely physical, social and economic. Changes in the physical aspect occur due to changes in the use of agricultural land to non-agricultural. Changes in social aspects occur due to an increase in population density and changes in livelihoods. Meanwhile, changes in the economic aspect occurred due to an increase in the regional economy such as an increase in income levels. The occurrence of rural-urban transformation can be caused by the development of educational areas in rural areas. One of the areas undergoing a rural-urban transformation is Jatinangor District. Jatinangor sub-district is a suburban area which is the center of national higher education and has been listed in the RTRW of West Java Province for 2009-2029. Jatinangor sub-district has four universities consisting of IPDN, Ikopin, ITB and UNPAD. This research uses quantitative descriptive analysis and overlay analysis. Then the collection is done primary and secondary. The variables used are land use, population density, livelihoods and income levels. From the results of the analysis that has been carried out, Jatinangor District has experienced a rural-urban transformation due to the existence of educational areas such as changes in the use of agricultural land into settlements, increased population density, changes in livelihoods, and increased income levels. In addition, there is a change in the characteristics of the Jatinangor District from rural to urban areas.
