Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to determine the effect of seaweed by product(Gracilaria verrucosa)on protein efficiency of male quail. The materials were six weeks old 160 male quail with average body weight 120,92 ± 0,48 g. Rations were used composed of yellow corn, rice bran, soybean meal, fish meal, Poultry Meat Meal (PMM), premix, coconut oil, and seaweed with 20% protein and metabolizable energy 2600 kcal/kg. Experimental design was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. There were T0: diets with 0% seaweed; T1: diets with 5% seaweed; T2: diets with 7,5% seaweed; T3: diets with 10% seaweed. The results showed that the treatment had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the protein consumption, Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER), and nitrogen retention. It could be concluded that 10% seaweed level did not increase or decrease on protein efficiency of 6-10 weeks old male quail.
