Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to determine the effect of seaweed by product as alternative feed ingredients for performance quail males aged 6-10 weeks. The material used was male quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) 6 weeks of age with a mean of one hundred and sixty male quail - average initial body weight of 120,92 ± 0,48 g, 20 units cages was used in this research, with a capacity of 8 quail. Feed ingredients that used was yellow corn, rice bran, soybean meal, fish meal, PMM, coconut oil, mix and seaweed by product. Research used completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications, T0: no seaweed by product; T1: 5% seaweed by product; T2: 7,5% seaweed by product; T3: 10% seaweed by product. The results showed that the treatment had no significant effect (P>0,05) on feed consumption, but significantly (P<0,05) decreased body weight gain and increased feed conversion. The results of this study concluded that the use of seaweed (Gracilaria verrucosa) by product above the level of 5% could decrease body weight gain and increase feed conversion.
